SWINDLED IN OPIUM DEAL.
Chinese merchant in Panama Accepts $5,000 in counterfeit Bills.

PANAMA, June 7.--- Two Americans, strangers to the city, entered a Chinese store in Colon
last week and purchased $5,000 worth of opium from the merchant. They paid for the drug
with 1,000 $5 bills and went away with the opium.
The merchant placed 200 of the bills in circulation and banked the remaining 800.
