Why Our Drug Laws Have Failed and What We Can Do About It : A Judicial Indictment of the War on Drugs by James P. Gray

Judge James P. Gray is a conservative Republican judge and former prosecutor whose experience brought him to the conclusion that our drug laws have to be changed. This book reflects more than a decade of dedicated research, discussion, and consideration of the alternatives for drug policy. Take it from me, Jim Gray is one guy who did his homework before he started writing. This book provides a good synopsis of what went wrong with American drug policy and what we can do to fix it.

Drug Crazy by Mike Gray

Mike Gray (no relation to Jim Gray, above) provides an entertaining romp through the history of the drug laws, showing how the mistakes of the past are repeated again today, right down to the maps of the neighborhoods involved.  It is meant to be read in an afternoon and to leave the reader with a good understanding of how we got to where we are today.
